NSREA Appraiser Designations

NSREA Designations for Real Estate Appraisers

The National Society of Real Estate Appraisers offers three professional designations. They are Residential Member, Commercial Member, and Master Member. In order to achieve a higher designation, an individual must first satisfy the requirements of the beginner designations. For example, one cannot become a CRA without first being a Residential Member.

1. Residential Member (RA)

- Must be a state certified appraiser
- Needs to have a minimum of 2 years experience
- Satisfy an education requirement set by the NSREA

2. Commercial Member (CRA)

- Must be state certified appraiser
- Needs to have 3 years of experience (beyond those for certification)
- Must be a Residential Member of the NSREA for at least 2 years
- Satisfy an education requirement

3. Master Member (MREA)

- Must be a designated member (in good standing) of the NSREA
- Has to complete the NSREA’s Instructor Certification Program (or complete an equivalent program with another reputable association)
