IFAS and IFAC Designations for Appraisers

IFAS Designation (Senior Appraiser Specialist for Non-Residential and Income Properties)

General appraisers that earn the IFAS from the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers are considered Senior Appraiser Specialists for Non-Residential and Income Properties. This designation is awarded to experienced appraisers that specialize in income-producing properties.

A candidate must:

- Meet the requirements of the IFA designation

- Complete additional coursework

- Hold a college degree

- Have 6,000 hours of appraisal experience (Half of these hour must be in the appraisal of non-residential, income properties)

- Submit a log of completed assignments within the last year

- Submit a commercial appraisal for review by committee

IFAC Designation (Appraiser Counselor who has been an IFAS for 3 years)

Once an appraiser has held the IFAS designation for three or more years, he or she is then eligible for the IFAC designation. Although the application and certification process is more streamlined, candidates must still submit letters of recommendation and completed appraisals for review by an admissions committee.
