Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) Designation
By ProMatcher Staff
What is the ASA Designation?
The American Society of Appraisers is a non-profit organization that works to support and unite appraisal professionals. The organization awards several designations. One of the most important designations is the ASA, or the Accredited Senior Appraiser. In order to be eligible for this designation, an appraiser must have at least 5 years of experience. In addition to this experience, the individual must pass an exam, submit a set of past appraisals for review, and complete a continuing education course.
Appraisers with the ASA designation have at least 10,000 hours of appraisal experience. They are at the top of their field. Homeowners and potential home buyers can be reassured that these appraisers are well educated, experienced, and highly qualified.
Once the individual earns the ASA designation, he or she will be subject to a re-accreditation process every five years. To remain an Accredited Senior Appraiser, the appraiser must provide evidence that they have continued to grow their knowledge of the profession and the industry.
Before hiring a real estate appraiser, make sure to ask about the appraiser’s membership in any professional associations and his or her years of experience in the industry.
