NRAI Appraiser Designations

NRAI Professional Designations

The National Residential Appraisers Institute is a professional association of real estate agents and appraisers that focuses heavily on the importance of training and education. Not only do they wish to build recognition for appraisal professionals, but they also aim to make sure that all of its members are well qualified and highly competent.

The NRAI offers four different designations to qualified members.

Certified Data Market Analyst (CMDA)

- Designation for real estate agents primarily
- Focus on residential properties (i.e. single family homes)
- Must complete coursework in principles of appraisal
- Aimed to improve valuation skills

Graduate Senior Appraiser (GSA)

- Designation for real estate sales people primarily
- Requires at least two years of experience
- Must complete coursework on principles of valuation/appraisal

Senior Licensed Appraiser (SLA)

- Designation for residential real estate appraisers primarily
- Must have state certification/license
- Focus on single family homes, condos, and 1-4 unit buildings
- Must adhere to code of ethics
- Minimum three years of appraisal experience

Senior Certified Appraiser (SCA)

- Designation for real estate appraisers
- Must be state certified
- Focus on residential and commercial appraisals (no restrictions on property value of listing)
- SCA designated appraisers must still follow regulations set by state or locality
