The IFA Appraiser Designation

Residential Appraiser Specialist (IFA)

The IFA is awarded to experienced and qualified residential real estate appraisers that are members of the National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers (NAIFA).

Candidates that wish to become an IFA with NAIFA must satisfy the following requirements:

- Be a NAIFA member in good standing.

- Pay the appropriate fees.

- Submit letters of recommendation.

- Sign NAIFA’s code of ethics.

- Hold state license or certification.

- Must submit completed appraisals for review.

- Provide proof of 3,000 hours of experience with residential appraisal.

Agreements with other Organizations

An appraiser that has a designation with another reputable professional association of appraisers may be eligible to take an accelerated route to IFA designation. For example, if an appraiser has an ASA from the American Society of Appraisers or a SRA from the Appraisal Institute, they may qualify for NAIFA's Accelerated Designation Program.
