SRA Designation for Appraisers

What is an SRA?
The
Appraisal Institute
is the organization that awards the SRA designation. Appraisers with the SRA designation are highly qualified
residential
real estate appraisers. In order to become an SRA, the candidate must endure a rigorous application process and must satisfy several other requirements.
SRA candidates must:
- Hold a college degree.
- Uphold a strict code of ethics.
- Complete 180+ hours of classroom instruction.
- Pass seven (7) examinations.
- Submit several completed appraisals for review.
- Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the principles of valuation and residential real property appraisal.
- Have a minimum of 3,000 hours of experience over the course of three years (does not include hours completed before state certification).
